Mark Musick held the James H. Quillen Chair of Excellence in Teaching and Learning for more than eight years, an endowed chair in the Clemmer College of Education at East Tennessee State University, where he was responsible for assisting the College in Building on its reputation as the principal provider of education and related service professionals in East Tennessee. The chair holder actively participates in the life of the campus by teaching one or two classes per semester and engages in a progressive program of scholarship, faculty mentoring, and grant-seeking activities.
Musick joined ETSU in January 2006 from the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), where he served as Chief Executive Officer and President of the Board, and previously as Vice President and Director for State Services and Information. He brought to the university memberships, contacts, experience, and knowledge gained from many years of service with regional and national organizations that included, service as Chair of the National Assessment Governing Board that directs the National Assessment of Educational Progress, Chair of the Board of Directors Of ACT Inc. and Chair of the National Center for the Improvement of Educational Assessment. His affiliation with these organizations facilitates linkages between these boards and university initiatives and brought regional and national attention to the university’s aggressive P-16 agenda and commitment to education at all levels.
