TLINC Background
Research by NCTAF and others shows that staggering rates of new teacher turnover result from teacher preparation that remains unaligned with the realities of the 21st century classroom. NCTAF is working together with our partners to create centers of excellence in teacher education that embed evidence-based practices about the value of professional learning communities. TLINC is not about any particular technology. It is about using technology to do teacher preparation differently—to facilitate the induction of new teachers into strong professional communities with access to resources and just-in-time support.
TLINC was created with pilot funding from AT&T Foundation, Microsoft, and the US Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE). A three-year dissemination grant from FIPSE and grants from Wireless Reach from Qualcomm are supporting current efforts. Mobile devices and service plans are made possible through partnerships with Kajeet for Education and HTC.
