Site Descriptions
Denver, Colorado
The Denver site consists of a partnership between the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center (UCDHSC) and the Denver Public Schools (DPS). As the pre-service teacher education program, UCDHSC connects faculty and students with teachers at Professional Development Schools in the DPS system. As part of DPS’s induction program, TLINC connects principals, teachers, mentors, and instructional specialists who are enrolled in Professional Development Units that are a required part of induction.
Memphis, Tennessee
The Memphis site consists of a partnership between the University of Memphis and Memphis City Schools, Tipton County Schools, Shelby County Schools and Fayette County Schools in Tennessee, DeSoto County Schools in Mississippi, and Crittenden County Schools in Arkansas. The TLINC project in Memphis is using two approaches to building online teacher communities. The first and longest running is the use of TLINC to support undergraduate classes in the College of Education. The second, just beginning this fall, is the development of online communities of student teachers and mentors.
Seattle, Washington
The Seattle site consists of a partnership between the University of Washington and the Seattle Public Schools, with involvement from UW Bothell and the Ackerly Partner School Network. The UW TLINC project is currently developing a systematic image of induction support in its newly restructured teacher education program, including and exploration of how induction can be enhanced through online interaction starting with pre-service teachers through the first few years of teaching.
El Paso, Texas
The University of Texas at El Paso works with the El Paso Regional Induction Committee districts—Canutillo, El Paso, Socorro, and Ysleta ISDs—to prepare and retain greater numbers of Hispanic teachers and principals who can meet the needs of English Language Learners.
Albuquerque, New Mexico
The University of New Mexico, partnering with Albuquerque Public Schools, is developing TLINC learning modules and professional communities for current and preservice educators, with special emphasis on minorities and ELLs (English Language Learners).
Atlanta, Georgia
Georgia State University works with a consortium of small rural districts in Georgia. Building on GSU’s statewide Teacher Quality Teaching Residency grant, the TLINC online communities will link Teaching Residents with faculty at GSU and Albany State University as they work in high need rural schools throughout Georgia.
Greensboro, North Carolina
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro works with urban districts in the Piedmont Triad Education Consortium to support teacher candidates, novice teachers, mentors, and teacher leaders during the induction phase of teaching.
Edmond, Oklahoma
The University of Central Oklahoma partners with Oklahoma City Public Schools to prepare teacher candidates in the newly established Urbran Teacher Preparation Academy. UCO aims to use TLINC to help support their new cohort of teachers for the challenges these teaching residents will face when they begin teaching in high-need, high-poverty urban schools.
St. Louis, Missouri
The University of Missouri St. Louis’ College of Education is embarking on a TLINC project that connects educator candidates to local community members in the municipalities surrounding Normandy School District in north St. Louis. The project will provide candidates with information related to the issues of community and families and connect candidates to unique resources that can ultimately support their teaching and student learning.
