NCTAF/PBS/MetLife Foundation Learning Teams Initiative
A National Call to Action: Teaching for America’s Future
Our ability to prepare millions of children for the 21st Century knowledge-based economy will heavily depend on the ability of educators developing school environments where great teaching and learning can thrive. In today's flat world, teamwork is the hallmark of success. Everywhere we look, teams are working to solve problems and improve performance – everywhere, except in our factory-era schools where teachers continue to work alone in isolated classrooms.
NCTAF believes great teaching and learning result from collaborative efforts that cross the roles and boundaries of traditional schools. NCTAF has partnered with the MetLife Foundation and PBS to highlight schools where great teaching and learning is taking place. Four local PBS stations with a strong interest in education were chosen to work on this initiative; those stations are WGBH (Boston), WTIU (Bloomington, IN); KNME (Albuquerque); and NPT (Nashville). Through these stations, NCTAF has developed videos of learning teams in action. Each video will be shown at regional forums, hosted by the local PBS station.
